As you say goodbye to 2009 and welcome 2010, resolve to take control of your life by starting with some little steps toward a life of wellness. A wellness lifestyle allows you to truly enjoy life at whatever age you’re in.
Your office, your gym!
- Think of your office as a walking path where you can do 10,000 steps a day. Instead of emailing, why not walk to you officemate’s desk to discuss work? Instead of using the elevator, why not use stairs?
Count calories
- Remember, 3,500 calories equal one pound. If the required caloric intake for you is 2,000 caloris a day, simply have a calorie deficit of 500 calories a day. Do the math (500 calories x 7 days = 3,500 calories in a week). By week’s end, you would have lost one pound! Lose one pound a week until you reach your ideal weight.
Go ‘whole’ all the way
- Whole grains are good source of fiber B-complex vitamins, folate, and minerals such as magnesium, zinc, phosphorous and iron. It is also a good source of antioxidants and phytochemicals.
Never Stop Challenging yourself
- Set a new goals. Dare to dream even more ambitious dreams. Wellness is all about living life to the fullest. Are you aiming to joing a marathon? Do you want to write that novel in your head? Go for it.
Celebrate your success, no matter how small.
- Wellness is about relishing the joy in the little victories of life on ordinary days and savoring the joy in the big ones that move life forward.
Wellness is all about the personal choice you make – to eat healthy and engage in physical activities, to seek balance and find joy at every opportunity, to enjoy life at every stage. Your little steps to wellness can start now, at this very moment. Just remember, what you begin today can go a long, long way!
