Preventing Pregnancy
Whether you’re a sexually active teenager or a working woman of twenty three, you definitely do not want to fall in to the trap of an unexpected pregnancy. Although this may not necessarily be a bad or misfortunate thing, a pregnancy at the wrong time can seriously put an end to one’s hopes and dreams. Therefore, those who have intercourse merely for pleasure and not for procreation purposes, should definitely invest in some form of birth control.
The most effective birth control is the Pill. This pill has a certain amount of hormones in it, which ensures that the egg is not released by the ovary. Women will still get their monthly menses. This method is pretty convenient, and the only sticking point is that there may sometimes be side effects like nausea, weight gain and breast tenderness.
The most commonly used means of birth control are condoms. Condoms are generally made of latex and fit snugly around the penis to prevent semen from entering the vagina upon ejaculation. Condoms are convenient to use and relatively cheap. One of the drawbacks is that condoms sometimes break.
The Patch is another method of birth control. This is a sticker that is slapped on the skin, upon which hormones are released in to the body to regulate the release of eggs from the ovary – just like the Pill. Other methods are the diaphragm, female condoms, the birth control shot and the birth control ring. If all of these fail, one can always take the morning after pill.
However, condoms are the only form of birth control that not only prevent unwanted pregnancies, but also prevent the transmission of sexual diseases to a great extent. Condoms come in all shapes and sizes, from flavoured condoms to those that are ribbed or studded. Of course, the only birth control method that is a 100% accurate is abstinence!
